Data corruption is the damage of data because of various software or hardware fails. Once a file gets damaged, it will no longer work correctly, so an app will not start or shall give errors, a text file can be partially or completely unreadable, an archive file will be impossible to open and unpack, etc. Silent data corruption is the process of information getting harmed without any identification by the system or an administrator, that makes it a serious problem for website hosting servers as failures are very likely to happen on larger in size hard drives where large volumes of information are placed. In case a drive is part of a RAID and the info on it is replicated on other drives for redundancy, it is likely that the damaged file will be treated as an ordinary one and it will be copied on all of the drives, making the damage permanent. A huge number of the file systems that run on web servers today often are not able to detect corrupted files instantly or they need time-consuming system checks through which the server isn't functioning.

No Data Corruption & Data Integrity in Cloud Hosting

The integrity of the data that you upload to your new cloud hosting account shall be guaranteed by the ZFS file system which we take advantage of on our cloud platform. Most web hosting service providers, including our firm, use multiple HDDs to store content and considering that the drives work in a RAID, exactly the same information is synchronized between the drives at all times. In case a file on a drive becomes corrupted for reasons unknown, however, it's very likely that it will be duplicated on the other drives as alternative file systems do not have special checks for that. In contrast to them, ZFS uses a digital fingerprint, or a checksum, for every single file. If a file gets corrupted, its checksum will not match what ZFS has as a record for it, therefore the bad copy shall be swapped with a good one from another hard disk drive. Since this happens instantly, there is no possibility for any of your files to ever be damaged.

No Data Corruption & Data Integrity in Semi-dedicated Servers

If you buy one of our semi-dedicated server solutions, you will not need to worry about silent file corruption since we use ZFS - a high level file system that monitors all of the files in real time. Every time you upload a file to your website hosting account, ZFS will assign a unique digital fingerprint to it - the so-called checksum. That file will be synchronized between multiple SSD drives for redundancy, so if one drive fails, the other ones will take control. ZFS compares the checksum of all the copies on the different drives and if it detects a corrupted copy, it replaces it with a healthy one from another drive. This is done instantly, so there will be no risk for any part of your content at any moment. In comparison, all the other file systems execute checks after a system malfunction, but since they don't use anything similar to the checksums that ZFS uses, they cannot detect silently corrupted files, so a bad copy can be replicated on the remaining drives as well and you can lose precious info. Since this isn't the case with ZFS, we are able to warrant the integrity of each file you upload no matter what.
