Any time you add a domain as hosted in some account, you typically set a pair of Name Servers to direct it to that particular provider. On their end, 3 records are created automatically right after the domain is added - one A record and two MX records. The first one is a numeric address, or IP address, that “tells” the domain name where its site is, while the other two are alphanumeric and they show the server that handles the emails for that specific Internet domain. The site and the e-mail hosting are often thought to be one thing, when they're in fact two different services. Having separate records for them will allow you to have them with different companies if you would like. For instance, some new service provider could have fantastic uptime for your website, but you might not want to switch your e-mails from your current host and by using an A record to point the domain address to the first and MX records to have the e-mails with the second, you will get the best of both companies. These records are checked when you want to open a website or send an e-mail - in either case, the service provider whose name servers are used for the domain name is going to be contacted to retrieve the A and MX records and if you've set records different from their own, the correct web/mail server will then be contacted and you are going to see the needed website or your email is going to be delivered.

Custom MX and A Records in Cloud Hosting

If you have a cloud hosting service through our company, you'll be able to view, set up and modify any A or MX record for your Internet addresses. Provided that a specific domain name has our Name Servers, you'll be able to modify certain records via our Hepsia hosting CP and have your site or e-mails directed to any other service provider if you would like to use only one of our services. Our innovative tool will even permit you to have a domain address hosted here and a subdomain below it to be hosted somewhere else by modifying only its A record - this will not affect the main domain name in any way. If you choose to use the e-mail services of another service provider and they want you to set up more than two MX records, you can easily do this with just a couple of mouse clicks in the DNS Records section of your CP. You may also set different latency for every single MX record i.e. which one is going to have priority.

Custom MX and A Records in Semi-dedicated Servers

If you acquire a semi-dedicated server plan from us, you are going to be able to view and update the A and MX records for any of the domains or subdomains that you host in the account. The Hepsia CP, which you'll get to take care of the account, offers an sophisticated, though easy-to-use tool where all hosts will be listed in alphabetical order and you'll be able to edit their records with no more than a few mouse clicks. If you have to create a new record, it will be equally simple - pick the domain/subdomain, type in the IP address or mail server record and you will be all set. You'll also be able to set different priority for the MX records you create in case you want to use a third-party e-mail provider and they ask you to set up additional records aside from the 2 default ones. If you encounter any difficulties, you will find a detailed Help section with videos where you can see first-hand how to setup or modify any record.
