In accordance with the policy adopted by the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), the contact info a domain is registered with must be correct and up to date at all times. At the same time, this info is openly available on WHOIS lookup sites and while this may not be a problem for firms, it may not be very acceptable for individuals, because anybody can see their names and their personal postal and email addresses, particularly in an age when identity fraud is not that uncommon. That’s why domain name registrars have introduced a service that conceals the details of their customers without changing them. The service is referred to as Whois Privacy Protection. If it is activated, people will view the details of the registrar, not those of the domain owner, if they make a WHOIS search. The Whois Privacy Protection service is supported by all generic Top-Level Domain extensions, but it’s still impossible to hide your private details with some country-code extensions.

Whois Privacy Protection in Cloud Hosting

You can easily activate Whois Privacy Protection for any domain that you have registered through our company in case you have a cloud hosting account with us. This can be achieved through the same Hepsia Control Panel, via which you manage the hosting account, so you will not need to switch between different tools. In the same section where all your active domain names will be listed, there will be an “Whois Privacy Protection” icon for each domain name whose extension supports this service. The status of each icon will quickly show you if the Whois Privacy Protection service is enabled for a specific domain or not and by clicking that icon you can enable the service if you have not done so upon signup. Additionally, you will also be able to renew or to disable the Whois Privacy Protection service for any domain name using that same icon and the change will take effect instantly.

Whois Privacy Protection in Semi-dedicated Servers

In case you want to conceal the contact information for your domain and you’ve got a semi-dedicated server account with our company, you’ll be able to add our Whois Privacy Protection service either during the registration process or at any time afterwards through our Hepsia Control Panel. The service is optional and can be enabled with a few mouse clicks from the Control Panel’s Registered Domains section where all the domain names that you’ve registered with our company will be displayed alphabetically. You can order Whois Privacy Protection for any of the TLD extensions that support the service by simply clicking on the “Whois Privacy Protection” logo to the right of each domain name. In the same fashion, you can also renew the Whois Privacy Protection service or turn it off – in case you want to transfer a domain to some other registrar company and you need the real email associated with the domain name to be visible.
